Abstract

Most aspects of brand loyalty rely heavily on brand awareness. However, the information processing of brand awareness in customers, which is significant in buying decisions or customers' feedback experiences, is still unknown in the available literature. This study investigates how dynamic brands awareness affect customers in buying what they buy and how they buy them. The current study's entire goal is to comprehend the phenomenon of customer preferences and choices in the Nigerian context. The study asserts that there is a need to provide critical information that will improve customers' hypotheses testing in making a choice and preferences in creating brand awareness. It is necessary for brand builders and marketers to achieve and maintain the ultimate level of awareness through great gift items, pricing tactics, sales promotion, and sponsorship of programmes and events creatively and consistently. Abstract

The global pandemic has been an issue of concern to every nation of the world. The effect of COVID-19 on entrepreneurial activities has engendered a lot of discussions in existing and ongoing literature. This chapter investigates the challenges, impact and opportunities available to social entrepreneurs in the Nigerian context. The study revealed the role of social entrepreneurs and COVID-19 pandemic incidence and effect in Nigeria. The state mechanism is deemed an accelerator and a stimulus needed to eventually steer investment and economy growth, taking into account the Nigerian social challenges complexities and dynamism; the challenges are too immense to be handled efficiently by the government. The idea of development in the Nigerian context remains an area of learning, which has evolved as a sub-set of entrepreneurship practices and theories. Therefore, it is recommended that the Nigerian government programmes be structured to build enabling environments to promote highly enthusiastic social entrepreneurs who are imaginative and revolutionary in contributing positively to achieve better socio-economic results while encouraging social entrepreneurs' emergence.

Abstract

Purpose

Scholars have typically examined family business exposure as an aggregate variable. However, it is probable that this trend oversimplifies the complexity of family exposure and its nuanced influence on entrepreneurial behaviour. Thus, to extend the theoretical boundary, this inquiry investigates distinct dimensions of family exposure in Nigeria while drawing on the theory of planned behaviour.

Design/methodology/approach

Data were collected from five public universities in Nigeria. A sample of 1,314 respondents was analysed using a partial least squares structural equation modelling approach to determine the influence of alternate family business exposures.

Findings

The results show that entrepreneurial exposure in the forms of parent, family member and work involvement have salient and distinctive influences on implementation intention to the extent that entrepreneurial self-efficacy, attitudes and subjective norms are uniquely impacted.

Originality/value

This study offers novel insights on the predictors of entrepreneurial implementation intention through the distinctive effects of (1) family member exposure, (2) parent exposure and (3) work involvement exposure among students in the family firm context.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to carry out a thematic review of literature on ethics, governance and sustainable practices with regard to workforce engagement and development in the Nigerian hospitality industry.

Design/methodology/approach

The review covered the available conceptual and empirical research articles along with a number of alternative sources containing helpful information, such as industry reports and news articles. The review suggests that, for the Nigerian hospitality industry, extant research on ethics, governance and sustainability with regard to workforce management can be categorized into five themes adapted from the categorization of ethical constructs in the work of Tucker et al. (1999) on codes of conduct. These five themes are integrity, equality, economic efficiency and equivalence, distributive and contributive justice and environmental concern.

Findings

There appeared to be a high incidence of unethical behaviour in the industry, the most common being maltreatment by employers and dishonesty of employees.

Research limitations/implications

Impressions derived from the study could be inaccurate, given the dearth of research publications in this regard in Nigeria. More empirical research must be done to better understand where industry players need help to be more responsible and sustainable in their business practices and in the way they engage and develop their workforce.

Practical implications

A number of recommendations were made regarding how to entrench ethics and sustainability in hospitality organizations and to develop the workforce in line with this.

Originality/value

The paper is important because of the high reliance on people for competitive advantage in this industry.
